Waterproof Zipper and Flip-Lid Closure

SL-I093 closes in two stages. The primary seal is a waterproof zipper running the full width of the front panel, fitted with an oversized T-shaped pull that can be gripped with cold, wet or gloved hands — the detail that returns data on cheap coolers keeps flagging, because a small pull tab is the first thing to fail a user at the beach. Over it, a wide flip lid folds forward and locks onto a hook-and-loop patch on the front panel. The lid is not decoration: it shades the zipper from direct sun, keeps blown sand and grit out of the teeth, and lets you reach into the bag through the day without unsealing the main zip every time. Zipped and standing upright, the bag is leakproof against melt-water from the inside and shrugs off heavy rain, breaking spray and a direct hose-down. It is a sealed cooler, not a submersible dry bag.

Welded Body and Food-Grade Liner

The shell is 840D polyester tarpaulin, TPU laminated on both faces, and every structural seam on the body is joined on a high-frequency welding line rather than stitched — no needle holes anywhere on the waterproof envelope. Sewing is used only where it belongs: webbing anchors, handle bar-tacks and the strap attachment tabs, each box-and-cross reinforced and then covered by a welded patch. Sealock runs professional HF welding and conventional sewing lines in the same building, and this model uses both in the places each does best. Inside, the blue liner is a food-grade waterproof membrane welded to itself at every corner; a smooth continuous surface with no stitched seams is also what keeps odour and mould from establishing themselves over a season of use. Every insulated bag in the Sealock range uses a food-grade inner liner, whether TPU membrane, PEVA film or food-grade waterproof laminate.

Insulation and Cold Retention

Between shell and liner sits a closed-cell EPE foam wall. Closed-cell matters: the foam cannot wick, so a puncture in the liner does not turn the insulation into a sponge that holds water, bacteria and smell for the rest of the bag's life. Pre-chilled, packed at roughly two parts ice to one part contents and kept out of direct sun, SL-I093 holds usable cold for up to 36 hours,* which covers a full day plus an overnight in summer coastal conditions. Cold retention is a systems result rather than a fabric property — the foam sets the baseline, the welded liner removes the thermal bridges that stitched seams create, and the flip lid cuts the number of times warm air is admitted.

Carry, Handles and Everyday Details

Twin webbing handles run down both faces and pass through molded keeper loops, so the load path continues to the base instead of stopping at a stitched patch near the rim — the usual failure point once someone loads 20 kg of ice and drinks into a fabric tote. A removable, adjustable shoulder strap clips to D-rings at both ends for hands-free carrying. On the side panel, a stainless steel bottle opener is riveted to a webbing tab beneath a molded lash point, positioned to be used one-handed without unclipping anything. The base is reinforced and the body flares into a wide, stable footprint that keeps the bag upright on a sloping deck.

How We Make and Test It

Each SL-I093 starts with cut 840D TPU laminated fabric, closed-cell EPE foam, the food-grade liner and a reinforced base panel. We high-frequency weld the body and the liner, install the full-width waterproof zipper and its T-pull, the flip lid and hook-and-loop patch, the molded handle keepers and lash points, the side D-rings, the riveted stainless bottle opener and the removable shoulder strap. Incoming tarpaulin, foam and hardware pass IQC; welding parameters and seam bonding strength are checked at set intervals through the run under IPQC; and every batch clears OQC before packing. The standing test suite covers load testing to 1,500-plus cycles, zipper fatigue to 3,000 cycles, tensile and bonding strength, salt spray, abrasion, colour fastness and colour difference, plus a heavy rain and water-jet test matched to this model's non-submersible rating. Cold-hold performance is logged with a multi-channel thermocouple tester, with probes at the base, the mid-wall and directly under the closure so the curve shows where cold is actually lost. Customer-witnessed inspection follows our published procedure — unboxing, vacuum extraction, a 24-hour static rest and air-leak determination — and third-party inspection through SGS or QIMA can be arranged on request.

FAQ

Is it leakproof?

Zipped and upright it holds melt-water inside, and the welded body and liner keep heavy rain, spray and hose-down water out — verified by a heavy rain and water-jet test. The flip lid is a shield rather than a seal, so we do not claim inversion-proof service. For a bag that must be submerged, specify the airtight zipper upgrade.

How many cans does it hold with ice?

Around 36 standard 330 ml cans with a working ice layer. Packed with cans alone the number is higher, but the published figure assumes a realistic ice ratio because that is how a cooler is actually used.

How long does it keep things cold?

Up to 36 hours* pre-chilled and out of direct sun. Block ice and a two-to-one ice ratio extend that; repeated opening shortens it, which is exactly what the flip lid is there to reduce.

Does the interior hold odours?

The welded liner has no stitched corners, which is where smell and mould normally establish themselves in sewn coolers. Rinse with warm soapy water, wipe dry and store the bag open with the lid folded back — never sealed and damp.
